The AIPB’s Certified Bookkeeper Designation

Owen Sinclair

An experienced New York-based financial professional, Owen Sinclair most recently served as a bookkeeper for the Sousa Mendes Foundation in Oceanside. Over the course of his career, Owen Sinclair has maintained the Certified Bookkeeper designation from the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers (AIPB).

To obtain the AIPB Certified Bookkeeper designation, applicants must pass the AIPB’s four-part certification exam, which is offered at more than 300 Prometric Test Centers across the country. They must also have at least 3,000 hours of professional bookkeeping experience, obtained either before or after taking the exam.

The exam focuses specifically on five separate areas and requires applicants to demonstrate advanced bookkeeping skills in entry adjustment, error correction, inventory, payroll, and fraud prevention. Once an applicant has passed the certification exam, shown evidence of professional experience, and signed a code of ethics, he or she receives the Certified Bookkeeper designation. Thereafter, it is necessary to obtain 20 continuing-education credits each year to maintain it. For more information about the Certified Bookkeeper designation, visit www.aipb.org.
